For public librarians
“Where can I find out what assisted living costs around here without giving anyone my phone number?”
The reference desk gets this question from patrons who have already met a directory that asked for a phone number before showing a price. Every figure here is open, carries its source and date, and prints. The methodology and data-sources pages are written for someone who has to decide whether a source is citable.
What to hand a family
Links that remember where a family came from
Paste these into a resource page, a newsletter or an email. The tag on the end tells us a family arrived through your link, and nothing more: no cookie, no account, no information about the person. If you want to see how many of your families used the site, ask and we will send the count.
State fact sheets
The state fact sheet is a one-page handout for the vertical file or the program table at a caregiver event. Every state has one, and each prints on a single page from the browser. Pick a state.
Put a cost table on your own page
The embed gallery generates one line of code for a city cost table, a city against state against national comparison, a licensed provider count or a care type cost card. The widget updates itself when the data updates and carries one attribution link back to the source page. No registration and no tracking script.
Frequently asked questions
How should a patron cite a figure from the site?
Every cost page carries a copyable citation with the source, the as-of date and the URL, in APA and Chicago forms. The 2026 index is also archived with a DOI for a fixed copy.
Is the site free of advertising?
No. Some pages carry advertising, labeled as such, and the how-we-make-money page explains it. No advertiser affects a cost figure, a provider listing or an inspection record.
