PACE in Memphis: what exists in Tennessee and what to use instead
Our directory lists no PACE organization in Memphis or anywhere in West Tennessee. The state's listed programs are in Chattanooga and Brentwood, both outside any Memphis service area. Here is what that means and what Shelby County families use in its place.
Where Tennessee's PACE programs are
PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly) is a Medicare and Medicaid program, not a facility. One organization takes over medical care, day center, transportation, meals, therapy, and in-home help for people 55 and older who need a nursing-home level of care but can still live safely at home with support. Each organization is approved for a fixed set of ZIP codes, so where you live decides which program you can join, not which city is on the sign.
The two organizations in our Tennessee data are Ascension Living Alexian PACE in Chattanooga and Life Coordinated Commonwealth PACE in Brentwood, near Nashville. Service areas are ZIP-code lists approved by the state and CMS, and neither reaches Shelby County. Programs do open in new regions, so Medicare's PACE finder, searched by address, is worth a check.
What PACE would cost if one opened
If you have TennCare, or both Medicare and TennCare, PACE charges no monthly premium for the long-term care part and no copays for approved services. With Medicare only, the organization sets a monthly premium plus a Part D premium. Those are program rules and would apply to any future Memphis program.
What Memphis families use now
TennCare CHOICES is the state's long-term care program for people who qualify for Medicaid and need a nursing-home level of care. It pays for in-home help, adult day care and assisted living in a licensed facility, and it is the closest thing to PACE's bundle that exists in Shelby County. The Aging Commission of the Mid-South, the local Area Agency on Aging, handles caregiver respite and can start a CHOICES application.
