What respite can cost in Rhode Island
Respite is short-term relief for a family caregiver, not a separate facility class with its own national price survey. The ranges below are derived from published Rhode Island figures for in-home care, adult day, and assisted living. They are planning estimates, not quotes.
- In-home respite: about $40/hour from the local in-home monthly median (44 hrs/week survey standard). Roughly $320 for an 8-hour day, or $1,600 for a 40-hour week.
- Adult day respite: about $70/day (monthly adult-day median ÷ 20 program days), or about $350 for a five-day week.
- Facility short-stay (AL slice): about $259/day (local assisted-living monthly ÷ 30), or about $1,813 for a week. Communities often bill a higher short-stay rate; ask before booking.
Method: divide published monthly medians into hourly/daily slices as above. Full notes on our methodology page.
