Maryland Medicaid for Long-Term Care
Maryland Medicaid can help pay for long-term care if your parent meets Maryland's medical and financial rules. But coverage for nursing homes, assisted living, and in-home help is not the same in every state. What is Maryland Medicaid?
Maryland Medicaid is Maryland's Medicaid program. Medicaid is a joint federal–state program, and states set many eligibility details within federal rules.

Does Medicaid pay for a nursing home in this state?
Medicaid nursing facility coverage is available when someone meets the state's level-of-care and financial eligibility rules. Income and asset tests are state-specific.
CMS reports that for 2026 the SSI federal benefit rate is $994 per month for an individual, and many states adopt a special income level for institutional eligibility capped at 300 percent of that rate ($2,982 per month). Confirm whether MD uses that pathway and the current countable income and asset thresholds on Medicaid.gov: https://www.medicaid.gov/.

Home care, waivers, and assisted living

Medicare vs Medicaid (quick check)
Medicare generally does not pay for custodial long-term care (ongoing help with daily activities in a nursing home or assisted living). It may cover short skilled nursing facility stays after a qualifying hospital stay under Medicare rules.
If your parent needs long-term custodial care and has limited resources, Medicaid is usually the program to evaluate. Not Medicare alone.
